Project Overview
MEET MEE uses the traditional Malaysian noodle dish, Pan Mee, as the core competency of the brand, has innovated and perfected the traditional Pan Mee to better meet the needs of modern consumers. Despite having experienced personal and business setbacks, Clement Lin, the founder, did not give up on his goal. He worked hard to overcome the complexity of an unfamiliar environment, eventually succeeding in creating a flavor-packed instant noodle that quickly became an online sensation. In 2022, he achieved RM6.04 million in revenue and was the top selling Pan Mee product at SHOPEE.

 

 

MEET MEE, an up-and-coming Malaysian instant noodle brand, is fully prepared to explore the halal market in Malaysia and tap into the vast business opportunities in China markets. With those opportunities in sight, the company plans to achieve RM40 million in sales by 2026. The company is now beginning its second round of fundraising for seeking additional investments to accelerate the pace of expansion.
 

 

About the Founder
In 2003, Clement Lin had to give up his career in 3D animation due to an eye condition. Taking his medical compensation, he decided to start his own business and opened a noodle restaurant near the university business area. Over the years, he replicated the same business model and established several noodle brands. One of the noodle brands that had only been in operation for 16 months was acquired in 2008 for a total purchase price of RM1 million. In 2016, he created the MEET MEE brand and expanded to 6 noodle shops.

 

 

In April 2020, Clement Lin closed all his noodle shops due to the Covid outbreak. But instead of giving up, he took on the battle with a determined attitude and quickly switched to an e-commerce platform. He took advantage of every opportunity to gain exposure for his brand. Not only did he participate in an entrepreneurial reality show on TV, but he was also featured on the MyStartr crowdfunding platform. With an innovative business model that solves the industry's pain points, it took only 3 hours to secure a seed funding of RM1.5 million. After reallocating the fund, he got his instant Pan Mee to be sold across the country and overseas. Within a year, he achieved the remarkable feat of selling over one million packs.

 

Through actively engaging in various business activities, Clement Lin has been cultivating strong relationships with his peers. He does this by exchanging professional skills, marketing experience and strategies, and crisis management. He regularly sharpens his professional acumen by taking classes and studying diligently, demonstrating an immense commitment to adding value to himself and building a resilient spirit. Italy has pasta, Japan has ramen, China has river snail rice noodles......In the future, we hope Malaysia will have Pan Mee!

 

Our goal is to promote Malaysia's noodle culture internationally, taking a huge leap towards establishing the noodle industry in Malaysia and becoming an iconic representation of Malaysian noodles worldwide.

 

After 2021 July’s Equity Crowdfunding on MyStartr Platform, we successfully achieved the innovation from ‘made-to-order dine-in’ to ‘packaged instant noodle’, including offering a competitive price point and innovative products, garnering high engagement from both mainstream media outlets and social media channels, maintaining consistent quality in-store and online, as well as building positive word-of-mouth buzz - MEET MEE has become one of the most beloved noodle brands among Malaysians of all backgrounds.

 

 

Specifically, our Malay patrons have showered us with countless praises such as "sedapp gillaa" and "sedap for the price". We are honored that this segment of our Muslim community is taking note of us, further strengthening our goal of this financing is to tap into the Malay market.

So far, we have achieved very significant results:

 

  • We achieved a record revenue of RM3.31 million in FY 2021, exceeding the expected target of RM2.4 million by 37.9%.
     
  • We achieved a further record high in FY2022, recording a turnover of RM6.04 million, an 82.5% increase year-on-year.
     
  • Set a record of selling 77,000 packs of Pan Mee in a single day on e-commerce platform.
     
  • Won the Malaysia Book of Records for selling 42,601 packs of noodles in 1 hour.
     
  • Data from e-commerce platform shows that the total sales of Mum's Soup Pan Mee has recorded a 2,297% increase up to February this year.

     

In May and September of 2020, the noodle shops in Danau Kota and Prima Setapak reopened their doors to customers. The noodle shops boast a contemporary minimalist interior, immaculately organized and tidy floor and attentive staff. In addition to the signature Pan Mee, customers can indulge in a variety of snacks and specialty drinks while dining with friends or simply enjoying some relaxation time.

 

 

We are constantly exploring new forms of user experience to create a more grounded and approachable marketing model that truly resonates with users. In this day of modern marketing, we understand that working together across different industries can bring mutual benefits to businesses. We are pleased to have partnered with influencers and food bloggers to promote our brand, and we are also thrilled to have gained attention from prominent local and international companies. We are currently in the process of planning new promotional campaigns, which we will reveal in the near future.
 

 

Potential Development
The next move for MEET MEE is to be prepared to broaden our products' reach to capture a larger portion of the market. As we look to uncover new opportunities in Malaysia and China, targeting the Halal market stands as our next major endeavor.

 

The Halal market is very important to our success. It is basically the foundation of our performance growth in the next three years. With a population of 22 million of Bumiputeras and a total population of 1.4 billion in China, we recognize that these markets still possess immense potential for success. At a time when the fast-food industry is booming, we are certain that we can capitalize on this success and rapidly grow our share of the market with the advantage of fast food becoming more like a regular meal.

 

 

In March this year, the initial shipment of packet instant Pan Mee was exported to Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province in China - a city with a population size totaling 64 million. We have authorized our Chinese partners to operate and sell our products, which can be purchased on Taobao's official website. We will rapidly extend our business reach into Shanghai, Fujian, Guangdong, and Hunan to proudly display the captivating essence of Malaysian noodle culture in China.

 

Leveraging our previous marketing strategies that have proven to be successful, we will continue taking advantage of the power of digital markets by utilizing social media and e-commerce platforms to promote our brand and products.

 

As other countries gradually reopen, we will strive to participate in domestic and international food exhibitions, such as MIHAS - Malaysia International Halal Showcase, MIFB - Malaysian International Food & Beverage Trade Fair, JFEX - JAPAN INT'L FOOD EXPO, THAIFEX Anuga Asia, and so on, to enhance brand awareness and attract more international B2B clients.

The funds will be used for brand and market promotion (40%), food technology improvement and relocation of our central kitchen (30%), and talent and team integration (30%).

 

The relocation of the central kitchen has been initiated to enhance production lines, equipment, and efficiency to maximize productivity. Our entire food production, processing, warehouse, and logistics teams will be unified in the same place as our offices by then.

关于创办人
2003年,林柯延因视力问题,需放弃从事3D动画工作。他只好把医药赔偿金用来创业,在最靠近大学商圈店铺开了1间面馆。几年下来,他复制了同样的模式,创立了几个面馆品牌。其中1个仅经营16个月的面馆品牌在2008年被收购,收购价总值100万令吉。2016年,他创立了 MEET MEE 品牌,拓展至6间面馆。

 

 

2020年4月,林柯延因疫情影响关闭了所有的面馆。但他没有放弃,而是断臂求生沉着应战,且迅速转战电商平台。他积极利用每个能让品牌曝光的机会,不只参加了电视台的企业真人秀节目,还上到 MyStartr 众筹平台,凭借解决行业痛点的创新商业模式,仅用了3个小时便获得150万令吉的种子轮融资。重新配置资金后,他让袋装板面开遍全国和国外市场,短短1年多的时间,成功突破了百万包销量。

位于 Danau Kota 和 Prima Setapak 的面馆,分别在去年5月和9月重新开张营业。面馆采用了现代简约装修风格,整齐有序,地面干净,工作人员彬彬有礼。除了招牌板面,还有小吃和特色饮料,让顾客可以在这里用餐、会友和休闲。

清真市场对我们来说非常重要,它基本上是我们接下来3年的业绩增长的支柱。我国拥有2200万土著人口,而中国整14亿人口这么多,我们看到这些市场的“蛋糕”份额仍然很大。在方便速食行业稳健增长的时代,我们有信心凭借速食正餐化的优势,可以在我们的目标市场迎来快速发展。

 

 

第一批的袋装板面刚刚在今年3月初,顺利出口到6400万人口的中国浙江省杭州市。我们授权予中国的合作伙伴经营权和销售权,淘宝官网可以买得到我们的产品。我们会把业务加速带进上海市、福建省、广东省、湖南省等,向中国展示大马面食文化的独特魅力。

 

鉴于过往的营销策略奏效,我们依然会好好利用线上市场,通过社交媒体和电子商务平台来推广我们的品牌和产品。
