Chapter 1: Gaming industry status quo

You game?

Gaming was traditionally regarded as a niche hobby. But, look at the industry right now, with the emergence of technology, gaming has started to take off to become a major mainstream entertainment. In 2010 the gaming industry worth merely $25.1 billion (ESA, 2010), but just in 10 years time the market grew to an astonishing figure of $203.12 billion (Fortune Business Insights, 2021), which has increased by more than 7 times.

Tech giants including Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Google have been constantly investing billions of dollars in the gaming industry until now. On top of that, even the world’s largest furniture retailer IKEA has also involved themselves by establishing a product line in gaming furniture specifically targeting the gaming market. These have proven that gaming has become part of our modern lifestyle, and this is a lucrative and growing industry. 

 

Chapter 2: Introduction of GH

Having strong faith and belief in the huge potential of the gaming industry, Gamers Hideout first entered into the gaming industry in 2006, committed to introducing original games to the Malaysian gaming community. And we have been lucky enough to continue growing and developing for more than 15 years till now.

Throughout these years, we rebranded and upgraded our business strategy, shifting our focus to lifestyle approach as the public came to see gaming as an integral part of their everyday lives. After transformation and rebranding, there are several immutable facts we came to realize that customers will always demand for CHOICES, FASTER and CHEAPER. And that’s where Gamers Hideout comes into play to provide a wide selection of offerings to better suit the mass market demand.

 

Chapter 3: Effect of Covid-19 Pandemic 

With the outbreak of the global pandemic in the past 2 years, various industries faced many hardships and the economy suffered a downturn causing the country to almost slide into recession. Due to the serious outbreak, people are being forced to stay indoors. Hence as a result people grew bored and gaming quickly emerged as one of the most popular activities.

Gaming industry has boomed and proved to be one of the recession proof industries that supported us throughout the pandemic. With it comes along an insatiable demand for gaming products. Gamers Hideout is fortunate enough to ride on this bandwagon, allowing us to excel in our performance by satisfying our gamers’ needs and demands with our products and services. 

Moreover, the gaming industry has accelerated as games nowadays act as their own standalone social media platform, connecting with friends and families even in the absence of real social life. Leveraging the convenience of the Internet and social media, our online presence increased and strengthened as compared to before, connecting with more audiences with the fun and happiness that was endeavored to deliver. 

 

Chapter 4: Industry problems

Unsatisfactory services 

Customer service generally supports customers before, during and after they purchase products. However many gaming retail services could not provide comprehensive and seamless online-offline experiences that satisfy gamers’ needs and demands. Especially the connection between the brand and customer is not well established due to the failure to deliver positive customer experiences through satisfactory service. The current lack of synchronization of all touchpoints will eventually disappoint customers and be left behind in the industry.

Limited offerings 

The industry currently lacks a retail game store that offers a complete, comprehensive game selection and gaming products. Considering the high demand for gaming and entertainment in the market, sadly there is nowhere that offers gamers a one stop shop for all their gaming needs. Limited offerings cause difficulties and frustration for customers to obtain the latest or upgraded tech products and ultimately leads to customer dissatisfaction.

Fragmented trade-in market 

At this time, the market fails to seize the opportunity where there’s no game store that focuses on the benefit of trade-in. Additionally some trade-ins can be inefficient and nontransparent when they involve unclear delivery and payment methods.  A well-established, complete system that serves as a central hub for trade-in consultation and checking has yet to exist. Therefore, there is a huge potential for the pre-owned market as not everyone is able to afford the latest gaming product, which creates a huge gap of post-demand for the products. 

Underserved market (outskirt)

In outskirt areas, due to lack of access, there is a huge demand for gaming and entertainment products and services. People who live outside the city do not have the same opportunities to experience the same variety of products and services as those living in the city. These people have no choice but to purchase products online and might receive products that are not suitable for them as they lack the physical touchpoints experience in brick and mortar stores. Moreover they will have to experience a long waiting period of after-sales service due to their distant locality. 

 

Chapter 5: Our Solutions 

In accordance with the identified problems in the gaming industry, Gamers Hideout offers various premium products and services to overcome the challenges. And these acted as our main growth pillar in supporting us to develop, as such:

 

1. Omnichannel

We endeavor to build an efficient omnichannel, striving to provide a seamless customer journey across all possible channels, using relevant and universal data. In every touchpoint of customers’ purchasing experience, this holistic approach goes beyond optimizing each sales channel individually; we want to ensure customers have a seamless transition and consistent experience across physical outlets, webstore, marketplaces and even mobile applications. With the development and adoption of omnichannel retail strategy, it is strongly believed that the operations and infrastructure of Gamers Hideout will transform to the next level.  

    

 

2. Ecosolutions 

Gaming industry is considered as one of the fastest developing industries, over time there is a tendency to accumulate outdated consoles or games due to the lack of recycling programs. Our ecosolutions offer ways to extend their life including campaigns and services such as True Gamers Recycle (trade-in) campaign, refurbish, repair & service and rental & RTO (Rent-To-Own). Instead of disposing of their hardware/software, customers have another alternative which is to trade-in with us. Customers able to enjoy the trade-in value and the pre-owned item eventually will be part of our ecosolution system. They can simply trade-in their old item for new ones with additional top-up. Hence the pre-owned market plays a role in purchasing second-hand products and selling them at an affordable price to the huge B40 market.

 

3. Services 

Our unique selling proposition is our services that go above and beyond adding value to customers’ lives, delivering exceptional experiences and harnessing emotion to create meaningful connections. The exclusive LEET membership is established to make customers feel uniquely desirable for some reasons, customers get to enjoy privileges benefits for instance priority access to pre-order high demand products or exclusive promotions. 

Besides, customers fear no equipment breakdown after purchasing as we offer Gamers Protection Plan (GPP) that guarantees instant new replacements with no downtime. Chapter 6: GH is Breaking Through 

Throughout the years our revenue has remarkably increased, even in the serious pandemic situation our transactions in FY2021 has reached to 100k yearly, which yielded more than RM48.9mil of revenue. The revenue growth was recorded to increase more than 75% since FY2020. In addition, our operation and infrastructure are more mature to accommodate more orders through our omnichannel. 


Our initiative was to focus on continuing to enhance our existing growth pillar, which includes strengthening our ecosolution TGR (trade-in) program, improving our GPP plans as well as optimizing our GH rider same day delivery services. And we have seen promising results from all the effort that we have put forth.

第四章 行业问题

不理想的服务

客户服务通常在顾客购买产品之前、期间和之后提供支持。

然而,许多游戏零售服务无法提供全面、无缝的线上线下体验,以满足玩家们的需求。尤其众多问题集中在未能通过满意的服务提供积极的顾客体验,而导致品牌与顾客之间的联系没有得到很好的建立。行业目前缺乏所有顾客接触点的同步,不仅会让顾客失望,在行业中也会面对落后问题。

产品供应有限

高度分散的二手市场

目前,游戏市场未能抓住专注于以旧换新的市场机会。此外,当涉及不明确的交付时,一些以旧换新的交易极可能效率低下且不透明。一个完善的、完整的系统作为以旧换新咨询和检查的中心枢纽尚未存在。由此可见,二手市场潜力巨大,因为不是人人都能买得起最新的游戏产品,这就造成了产品后期需求的巨大缺口需要我们去满足。

服务不足的市场(郊区)

在郊区,由于缺乏有效渠道,当地人们对游戏和娱乐产品及服务的需求巨大。生活在城市之外的人没有机会像城市里的人一样体验同样种类的产品和服务。他们别无选择,只能在网上购买产品。但由于他们缺乏实体店的接触点体验,可能会收到不适合他们的产品。此外,由于地理位置偏远,他们不得不经历一段漫长的售后服务等待期。

电玩行业被认为是发展最快的行业之一,随着时间的推移,由于国内缺乏回收计划都会出现一种趋势就是过时游戏机或游戏的堆积。 我们的生态解决计划提供了延长其使用寿命的方法包括 True Gamers Recycle(以旧换新)、翻新、维修服务以及租赁和 RTO(先租后买)。与其丢弃已用过的硬件或软件,顾客与我们以旧换新。顾客除了可以享受以旧换新的价值,这个二手产品也将成为我们生态解决计划的一部分。他们可以通过额外的充值简单地将旧物品换成新物品。
