Project Description
Gifting may seem simple, but it's actually a ritual that demands careful thought and craftsmanship. In today's rapidly paced society, where people are increasingly busy, the act of gifting has become more formal and lacks novelty and creativity.
Laurels & Leafz aims to simplify the art of gifting. Our goal is to alleviate the process of gifting while allowing the intentions of the gift-giver to be conveyed through our exquisite designs. We provide an all-in-one solution for the ever-expanding spectrum of gifting needs, ensuring that every recipient of our gifts feels deeply touched.
About the Founder
I am Laurel Ng Qi Hui, and from a young age, I was influenced by my mother's involvement in the arts, cultivating a strong pursuit of aesthetics. After obtaining a Master's degree in Management from the University of Nottingham, my first job was in the banking sector, where I worked in areas such as strategy, marketing, and finance.
During my time in the banking industry, I felt a lot of pressure, especially when it came to leaving a lasting impression on customers. Dealing with the hassle of gift-giving for major holidays became a daily concern, and gradually, I realized that this wasn't just my issue.
In the market, whether in the corporate world or among friends, every instance of gift-giving demands a significant amount of thought and time. This led me to learn about floral design, and creating personalized gifts for clients became the optimal solution to alleviate the aforementioned challenges. Unintentionally, it also became a source of interest and a way for me to unwind.
About the Business Start-ups
In 2017, I officially embarked on the entrepreneurial journey of Laurels x Leafz. With a decade of experience as a floral designer, I decided to start my own business in the fourth year, and now I have accumulated six years of entrepreneurial experience. Initially, the company operated as a side business with two friends. However, when I made the decision to run it full-time, my friends entrusted me with full responsibility and chose not to be involved anymore. As I transitioned to full-time operations, I started with just one part-time university student, and now our team consists of 14 full-time members, including floral artists, floral designers, gift specialists, flower arrangement instructors, customer liaisons, and marketing professionals.
Starting from a humble endeavor of crafting individual floral gifts, our business has evolved to include a wide range of services such as festive flower bouquets, grand opening floral arrangements, funeral wreaths, balloon decorations, fruit baskets, cake arrangements, indoor preserved flowers, and even floral design courses since 2018. We have successfully trained nearly 300 students through these courses.
From a modest second-floor shop in a commercial center, we now operate from a double-storey standalone house that serves as our floral design center. It houses workspaces for floral artists, classrooms for courses, and storage facilities.
While our current customer base is confined to the Johor Bahru region, our revenue has experienced remarkable growth. Starting with a modest revenue of RM 50,000 in 2017, we achieved a revenue of RM 1.5 million in 2022, reflecting the potential for significant expansion and larger business opportunities in the future.
Our clients are currently divided into two main categories: 60% are direct consumers who seek our services for personal gifting and holiday celebrations, while 40% are businesses. Many of these business clients require our services for corporate gifting, event decoration, and venue enhancement purposes.
Development potential
According to the data, the global floral industry is valued at $72.66 billion; the Southeast Asian market is valued at $47 billion; and the combined market size of Singapore and Malaysia stands at $78 million. We anticipate our marketing efforts to grow from RM2.4 million in 2023 to RM
10 million in 2026, representing an undeniable market value.
Our newly established VIP customer base, which has grown to 5,095 members within a year, sets us apart. Additionally, this year's data highlights an impressive customer retention rate of almost 60%.
Distinguishing ourselves from conventional flower shops, we are positioned to be a digitally advanced retail floral center. We intend to harness the power of scientific data from customer feedback to create a systematic equation and management framework. This approach ensures that each customer who customizes gifts with us leaves fully satisfied.
In 2023, our focus will be on refining digital and automated management systems. By 2024, we are set to expand to neighboring Singapore. In 2025, we will open a new branch in the Klang Valley area, and by 2026, we will extend further north to Penang. Our projections indicate that by 2027, our operations will have expanded to Southeast Asian countries like Indonesia and Thailand. The projected total investment return within five years is estimated to reach up to 5 times the initial investment.

关于创办人
我是Laurel Ng Qi Hui 伍启慧，自小受到母亲在艺术上的熏陶，对于美感有非常执着的追求。考获诺丁汉大学管理学硕士学位之后，第一份工作就在银行从事战略、营销和财务方面的工作。
当时在银行工作特别感到压力，尤其是为了要留住顾客的深刻印象，各大节日的送礼就成了日常的烦恼，后来逐渐我也发现这不仅仅是我的问题。市场上，不管是企业界或者是朋友圈，每一次都会因为送礼而花费了不少的心思与时间，因此学习花艺设计，为客户客制化礼品就成为我解决以上烦恼的最佳方案，无形中也成了我的兴趣与解压的方式。
创业故事
2017年我正式投入Laurels x Leafz的创业路途，我有10年的花艺设计师经验，在第四年决定创业，目前已有6年的创业的经验。一开始公司的开始，是由我与2位朋友副业经营，后来当我决定全职经营，我的朋友们就决定让我全权负责，而他们就不再参与其中。全职经营开始时，只有我和一位兼职的大学生，到现在14个正职的团队，包括花艺师、花艺设计师、礼品师、花艺讲师、客户专员，营销专员等。
从一开始只是做个人的鲜花礼品生意，到现在的业务包括提供节庆花束、开业花篮、葬礼花篮、气球装饰、水果花篮、蛋糕花篮、室内永生花、甚至在2018年开始展开花艺课程，目前累积的学员有近300人。
本来只是一个商业中心的二楼小店铺，到现在拥有一间双层独立式洋房的花艺中心，里面有花艺师的工作室、课程教室、库存等空间。
目前客户的服务范围虽然只有新山范围，但已经从2017年的仅仅的5万营收入，到2022年已经有150万的营收入，可见未来的拓展，将会带来更大的商机。
我们目前的客户对象有60%是直接面对消费者，用作个人送礼或者节日庆祝用途。40%是商家企业，多数是客户送礼、场地布置与活动美化用途。
发展潜能
根据资料显示，全球花艺市场规模为726.6亿美元；东南亚市场规模为470亿美元；新加坡和马来西亚市场规模为7800万美元。我们预计营销的将会从2023年的马币240万增长到2026年的马币1,000万，这是一个绝对是不容忽视的市场价值。
我们目前新开设的VIP客户经过1年的时间的注册，已经高达5095位，而且今年的数据显示我们平均有接近60%的顾客回头率。
有别于一般的传统花店，我们将会是未来数码化的新型零售花艺中心。我们会基于客户回馈的科学数据，转变成一套井然有序的方程式与管理系统，让每一位来我们这里定制礼品的客户，都能满载而归。
2023年，我们将会完善数码化与自动化的管理系统；2024年将冲出临近国家新加坡开设新据点；2025年将会在雪隆地区开设新分行；2026年则继续北上到槟城开设新的分行；2027年的业务预计将会拓展至印尼与泰国等东南亚国家，5年内的总投资回报率预计高达5倍。
